BRRA to be operational in January 2016

Government has disclosed that the Business Regulatory Review Agency (BRRA) will be fully operational in January 2016.

The Agency aimed at improving the quality of regulation for business development and growth in Zambia.

Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary Siazongo Siakalenge says government desires to improve quality of regulation for the better performance of businesses in the country.

Mr. Siakalenge says it is for this reason that government has adopted the use of Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) as part of the policy and legislative making process.

He states that the introduction of RIA is therefore expected to improve the decision making process, create a platform for Public Private Dialogue and healthy debate on economic development laws and policies, and ultimately improve the quality of regulation.

Mr Siakalenge says the overall objective of the Business Regulatory Review Agency (BRRA) is to improve the regulatory environment and quality of regulation and thereby lessening the regulatory burden on businesses.

He said this in Lusaka today when he opened a one day BRRA Awareness Workshop for Government Ministries and Private Sector Organizations on the Business Regulatory Act No. 3 of 2014.

Speaking earlier, Business Regulatory Review Agency Chairperson, Sangayakula Sanga has called for a stronger partnership between government ministries and agencies and the private sector for the growth of the business sector.
