YALI aks govt to account for President Lungu’s New York trip

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has called on Government to provide an account on how much the Presidential trip to New York for the UN General Assembly has cost the country.

In a statement to QFM News today, YALI Governance, Advisor Isaac Mwanza says his organization is saddened by reports suggesting that President Lungu chartered a private jet at a colossal sum of US$300 000 to carry him and his delegation.

Mr. Mwanza notes that Zambia is struggling with raising revenue and has accumulated foreign debts that need servicing by the Zambian public.

Mr. Mwanza says the Secretary to Cabinet should inform the nation under which budgetary note the President is flying his entourage at a cost of US$300 000 which money would have gone towards purchasing medicines or roads works in the country.

Mr. Mwanza doubts if late President Michael Sata would not see anything wrong with such expenditure.
