Some concerned citizens have questioned why the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is not destroying old voter’s cards instantly when one goes to replace an old card during the ongoing voter registration exercise.
They say people going to have their replaced are being made to leave the cards which are being filed.
They say this is raising suspicions as to why the ECZ is keeping the voters cards instead of destroying them in their presence for transparency’s sake.
They state that it is such acts by the Commission that make it difficult for people to have trust in the ECZ.
And when contacted for a comment, ECZ Public Relations Manager Cris Akufuna says following the concerns raised, the commission has instructed that the old cards should be perforated or be cut with scissors as they wait to be destroyed by the commission.
