Govt links development to Bible preaching

Government says there can be no meaningful development without preaching the word of God.

In a speech read on her behalf by youth and sport Minister Vincent Mwale at the celebration of Scripture Union’s 50 years of service, Vice President Inonge Wina says government appreciates the role that the Scripture Union has continued to play in turning the tides of morality around in the country.

Ms. Wina notes that if the people of Zambia rallied behind the Scripture Union, the current moral degradation among the youths would not be as rife as it is today.

She says Scripture Union if supported can help produce young people who will turn out into responsible and God fearing future leaders.

Ms. Wina has appealed to the church in Zambia and the business fraternity at large to continue supporting the work of the Scripture Union in various ways possible, stating that the Scripture Union is not a competitor to the church or government, but a nonprofit para church organization that seeks to build the kingdom of God by working alongside the church and the government.

She has since assured the Scripture Union that government will continue to appreciate its works as this is line with the constitutional provision of Zambia being a Christian nation.
