Parties challenged to be accountable through manifestos

Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Vice President Martin Mbewe says political parties should avail their manifestos to electorates as an efficient way of being held accountable for failed campaign promises.

Mr. Mbewe says time for people to start holding politicians accountable is now.

He notes that politicians tend to make so many promises during Campaigns which they fail to honor.

Mr Mbwewe says people should therefore start tracking political party manifestos and assess how they have fared in meeting their promises.

The FODEP Vice President said this today during an evaluation meeting with key stakeholders in Solwezi on the “State of Democratic Accountability Project”.

Mr. Mbewe has explained that the project is aimed holding Politicians accountable over the promises they make to electorates, and for people to realize their power to demand for the best in the governance system.

He says FODEP came up with this program after realizing that political parties sometimes fail to fulfill their campaign promises.

Meanwhile the Foundation for Democratic Progress (FODEP) has described as calm the electoral mood in Lubansenshi ahead of tomorrow’s Parliamentary by-election.

Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi has told QFM News from Lubansenshi that his organization has taken note that members of different political parties have been mingling freely with each other.

Mr. Chipenzi says his organization has also established that reports of vote buying by the PF and UPND are unfounded.

Mr. Chipenzi says his organization can therefore only conclude that such accusations and counter accusations of vote buying are mere electoral talk.
