Political parties voice out on political parties Act

Opposition Political Parties have expressed mixed feelings over the move by government to come up with a Political Parties Act aimed at regulating the operations of political parties in the country.

Some parties feel the Act is aimed at weakening the opposition political parties, while others feel the Act will bring sanity in the manner politics are done in the country.

MMD Spokesperson, Raphael Nakachinda says the party feels the PF Government does not mean well, but wants to disadvantage the opposition.

And the opposition UPND Deputy Spokesperson, Edwin Lifwekelo says the registration of political parties under the Registrar of Societies is enough.

He however, hopes that the consultation process towards coming up with a political parties Act will be transparent enough and the submissions of political parties will be respected.

Meanwhile, FDD Spokesperson, Antonio Mwanza says political parties have submitted their recommendations through the ZCID and that there is nothing sinister about the introduction of this piece of legislation.

And Green Party President Peter Sinkamba says the introduction of such a law is welcome as it will also look into the issue of funding for political parties during campaigns.

Mr. Sinkamba says this is considering that some political parties’ source of funding is questionable.
