The Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) has welcomed the moving of the department of cooperatives from the ministry of agriculture to the ministry of commerce, trade and industry.
Speaking to Qfm in an interview, ZCF Executive Director James Chirwa says the move is an excellent one which has excited the cooperative movement.
Mr. Chirwa says they have been advocating for this for so many years citing that the cooperatives being placed under agriculture was underrating the potential of the cooperative movement to venture into other sectors of the economy.
He says they owe it to president Lungu for realizing that this is the right way to do things as it will help not only the cooperative movement but the country as a whole especially as the country embarks on the diversification programme.
Mr. Chirwa adds that the cooperative was being overshadowed by the agriculture but now, the cooperative is expected to do many more others things that will contribute to the economic growth of the nation.
He has further commended president Lungu for the wise decision of moving the movement from the ministry of agriculture.
