Nkwazi are through to the semifinals of the 2015 Barclays Cup for the first time after eliminating Mufulira Wanderers on post-match penalties at the quarterfinals.

The Police side beat Wanderers 4-3 on spot-kicks after the game had ended 0-0 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday.

It was the second time heartbreak for Wanderers who also tumbled at the same stage in the 2014 edition when they lost 2-0 in regulation time to eventual winners and record four-time champions Zesco United.

However, Nkwazi’s path to the last eight began on a nervy note when Stewart Chikandiwa hit the post with his side’s first spot-kick.

There was more misery for Wanderers when Taonga Bweembya’s penalty was saved.

Rodrick Zimba and Chipungu Musukuma converted in-between Chisopa Malama’s spot kick.

Mike Katiba gave Wanderers some hope but Jacob Ngulube’s attempt was saved and Allan Kamwanga’s successful penalty was a mere formality when Emmanuel Kasonde got the clincher for Nkwazi.

The win was Nkwazi’s first over fellow promoted side Wanderers this season after drawing 1-1 at home in the league in Lusaka before losing 2-1 away in Mufulira.

Nkwazi, who fell at quarterfinals in 2010 in their debut outing, advance to the October 17 semifinals.

Zesco only play on Sunday when they face Kabwe Warriors at the same venue.
