Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe says government appreciates the role the freedom fighters played for Zambia to be liberated saying their personal sacrifice contributed to the current peace and stability.

Mr. Kabwe says the freedom fighters eradicated colonialism in Zambia in 1964 as they had a common goal to achieve in order for Zambia to attain her independence; hence those still existing should be highly respected by all meaningful Zambians.

Mr. Kabwe states that the freedom fighters have made a firm foundation for all Zambians saying they whole heartedly dedicated their lives to the people of Zambia before the country gained independence.

He has urged Zambians to take the challenge of identifying the freedom fighters so that they can be honoured by government because they deserve to be rewarded greatly as they gave up everything for the sake of freeing Zambia from the chains of colonialism.

He notes that if the freedom fighters were lovers of money, it would have been difficult for Zambia to attain her Independence in 1964 but they rejected every bribe from the colonialists either in form of money or materials because they had one vision to liberate the country from the oppressors with or without finances.

He says the fore fathers of Zambia under the leadership of the country’s first republican President, Dr Kenneth Kaunda who and his fellow freedom fighters founded the nation on the slogan of One Zambia one Nation unlike the current situation were some individuals in the country want to bring chaos in the nation by preaching the message of tribalism which he says is unZambian.

The Kitwe DC says the freedom fighters fought under one tribe called Zambia to overthrow the colonialists because they knew that there is no tribe which is greater than the other as they are all equal.

Mr. Kabwe has since appealed to all Zambians to totally reject all those who want to bring pandemonium in the country by using sentiments of tribalism through the media because Zambia is a Christian nation which does not stand for tribalism.
