Power Dynamos’ hopes of silverware in 2015 dimmed on Saturday when they were knocked out of the Barclays Cup at the quarterfinal stage by Green Buffaloes in Lusaka.

The two-time Barclays Cup champions lost 5-3 on post-match penalties to Buffaloes in a last eight tie played at Nkoloma Stadum after the match had ended scoreless.

It was the second successive time that the two-time champions had failed to advance from the quarterfinals after losing 2-0 to archrivals Nkana in the 2014 edition of the competition.

Buffaloes ejected Power from the Barclays Cup thanks to successful spot-kicks taken by Jack Chirwa, Buchizya Mfune, Felon Sitonya, Adrian Chama and Stephen Kabamba.

Power defender Derrick Mwansa missed his spot-kick while Kennedy Mudenda, Larry Bwalya and Alex Mwamba converted as Buffaloes kept their cool to eliminate Tennant Chilumba’s side from this years competition.

Buffaloes victory over Power came a month-and-a-half after they beat the latter 1-0 away in a Super League fixture on August 2 at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

The defeat puts pressure on Power coach Chilumba whose side is currently 3rd on the table and eight points behind leaders and defending champions Zesco United with six games left before the 2015 season is decided.
