Patriotism in hearts of Zambians has been disconnected – YTI

Youths for Transparency and Integrity (YTI) have observed that the patriotism in the hearts of many Zambians has been disconnected from the dream of a United and Prosperous Zambia.

YTI Executive Director Bright Muchimba says the core purpose of politics has been misconstrued over the years by some leaders without well defined short and long term policies that would bring about tangible development which would uplift the living standards of the common citizens of the country.

Mr. Muchimba notes that these leaders have resorted to dividing the country in order to stay in power by introducing a culture of political intolerance that does not promote unity, but a culture which is not consistent with the principles of solidarity and coexistence.

He says the hate speeches, divisive language and the trivialization of any statement from perceived political opponents both opposition and ruling party have replaced the unity of purpose and patriotism that existed before independence over 50 years ago.

Mr Muchimba says this should be rejected by anyone who still believes in the dream of a United and prosperous Zambia.

Mr. Muchimba states that it is very disheartening to see the lack of objectivity when young people are engaging in debates.
