Gwembe Council procures life jackets for school going Children

Gwembe District Council has procured 221 life jackets at a cost of K232, 000 aimed at safeguarding the lives of school going children.

In October last year,25 people; majority of them pupils from Henga Primary School in Gwembe Southern Province, drowned on Lake Kariba after the boat they were on capsized on their way to the inter-schools celebrations for the country 50th independence anniversary.

Gwembe District Council Secretary Dewine Kaoma says the life saving jackets will be distributed to all schools in the district.

He says the council is working tireless in ensuring that it saves people from drowning in the lake while trying to cross to the other side.

Meanwhile the Gwembe District Council Secretary has disclosed that it has procured earth moving equipment at a cost of K150, 000 using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Mr. Kaoma says the council will make sure that the roads are improved to help ease transportation for the people of the district.

And speaking to journalists shortly after inspecting the borehole sunk by Water Aid in the district, Mr. Kaoma says more than 12, 000 households have directly benefited from clean water access and improved sanitation facilities now available in the district.

He says he is delighted with Water Aid’s accomplishments in the district, stating the interventions are in line with the government’s top priorities for its citizens.

Mr. Kaoma has assured Water Aid that the infrastructure will be managed well with high precaution.
