Shawa assures farmers govt will pay on time

Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Permanent Secretary Julius Shawa has assured farmers in the country that Government will keep its promise to pay them within two weeks of supplying maize to the Food Reserve Agency.

Mr Shawa says government released an initial K99 million to pay farmers who have supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency.

He says his ministry has had several meetings with officials from the Ministry of Finance to ensure farmers are paid within two weeks of supplying their maize to FRA.

Mr. Shawa states that the treasury has commitment itself to ensuring that farmers are paid on time and that complaints relating to late payment of farmers will not be heard during this marketing season.

Mr Shawa adds that farmers who have supplied their maize to the agency can testify that they have been paid during the agreed timeframe.
