FRA commended for increasing maize purchase target

The Small Scale Farmers Association has commended the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) for increasing the target of maize to be purchased during this year’s marketing season from 500,000 to 800,000 metric tonnes.

Association President Edward Nsama says the move will enable as many farmers as possible to sale their maize to the agency thereby making a profit out of their produce.

Mr. Nsama says the move by the FRA will not only benefit the farmers, but the country as a whole in terms of food security.

He notes that the move will also encourage farmers to work hard and produce more in the next farming season.

He says the increment in the tonnage of maize to be purchased should not only happen this year but continue in the future.

Mr. Nsama further states that it is important that farmers continue being motivated considering the critical role they farmers in the development of the nation.
