ACC arrests corrupt practicing social welfare officers

The Anti-Corruption Commission in Choma has arrested two Social Welfare Officers for Corrupt Practices involving over K3, 000.00.

Commission Public Relations Officer Timothy Moono says Meckson Machilika, 43, of Plot No. 2083, New Kalundu, employed as a District Social Welfare officer and Daniel Mulangu Mwaba, 37, Plot Number P/B 139 Macha Road, employed as Social Welfare Officer in the Ministry of Community Development,Mother and Child Development in Choma District have been charged with three counts of Corrupt Practices by Public Officer contrary to Section 19 (1) as read with section 41 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

In Count one, details are that on unknown dates but between 1st April 2014 and 30th May 2014, Meckson Machilika and Daniel Mulangu Mwaba employed as Social Welfare officers in Choma District of the Southern Province Jointly and whilst acting together, corruptly solicited for k1500.00 cash gratification from a named Choma Resident, as an inducement or reward in order them to process a loan of K 4,000 from the Social Protection Fund for the said Choma Resident.

In count two, the details are that on dates unknown but between 1st April 2014 and 30th May 2014, Meckson Machilika and Daniel Mulangu Mwaba Jointly and whilst acting together, corruptly solicited for K1,500.00 cash gratification from a named Choma Resident, as an inducement or Reward in order for them to process a loan of K 3,500 from the Social Protection Fund for the named Choma Resident.

In count three, details are that on dates unknown but between 1st April 2014 and 30th May 2014 Meckson Machilika and Daniel Mulangu Mwaba in the Choma District of the Southern Province Jointly and whilst acting together, corruptly solicited for K 750.00 cash gratification from a named Choma Resident, as an inducement or Reward in order for them to process a loan of K 2,500 from the Social Protection Fund for the named Choma Resident.

They two are currently on Bond and will appear before the Choma Magistrate Court on the 12th October, 2015.
