The Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG) a consortium of faith based organizations has expressed concern over the sustained intolerance among politicians in the country.
Speaking during the launch of the 2015 to 2016 electoral process monitoring in Lusaka today, Mongu Catholic Bishop, Evans Chinyemba says Zambia is a multiparty democracy with opportunities for all freedoms thus the people of Zambia are compelled to respect each other regardless of which political party they belong to.
Bishop Chinyemba says Zambians are one people who should not yield to the regional rhetoric of individual politicians.
He says as politicians campaign, they need to always remain alive to the need to maintain peace and unity in the country beyond any elections.
He says the CCMG is dismayed by the continued abuse of public resources during campaign as well as the involvement of civil servants especially district commissioners in partisan campaigns.
Bishop Chinyemba says they expect the supervisors of civil servants to reprimand those involving themselves in partisan politics for such behavior and educate them on their civil servant status.
Meanwhile, Bishop Chinyemba says the Christian Churches Monitors Group is also not happy with the inadequacy in the mobile issuance of national registration cards.
He says many Zambians continue to complain of the failure by the national registration office to reach out to them and issue them with NRCs.
Bishop Chinyemba says the CCMG demands that the issuance of NRCs be scaled up stressing that the inadequacy in the issuance of NRCs will undermine the Electoral Commission of Zambia achieving its voter registration target.
