Three perish in Mpolokoso road mishap

Three people have died while eight others sustained injuries in a road traffic accident which happened about 40Km from Mpolokoso district.

Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda in a statement to QFM News says the deceased include the driver Joseph Simwamba, Steven Kabwe and a grade two pupil from Mwita primary school who were passengers.

Ms Chanda says the accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Hilux Reg. No. ALT 9002 failed to keep to his lane and hit into an on-coming Toyota sprinter Reg. No. APB 479 which had seven passengers on board.

She says the accident happened along the Kasama-Mpolokoso road on 8th September 2015 around 11:30 hours.

Ms Chanda says the bodies of the deceased are lying in Mporokoso district hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem while the injured are receiving treatment at the same hospital.

She adds that the driver of the Hilux is in police custody and has been charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

Meanwhile Ms Chanda says Luapula and Muchinga Provinces have not reported any road traffic accident in the past 24:00 hours while the Copperbelt and Eastern provinces recorded a fatal accident each.
