President Lungu commissions K400M worth ZNS earth moving machinery

Republican President Edgar Lungu has commissioned the more than K400 Million worth heavy duty earth moving machinery and agricultural equipment government has procured for the Zambia National Service.

And President Edgar Lungu has placed the Rural Roads Unit (RRU) under the Zambia National Service detaching it from the Ministry of transport, works, supply and communications.

Speaking during the commissioning of the equipment in Lusaka today, President Lungu says the equipment is meant to complement the programmes under the Link-Zambia 8000 and the Pave Zambia 2000 projects.

President Lungu says his government has identified Zambia National Service to be a useful and dependable vehicle to assist the nation in achieving the goal of opening up the rural parts of the country.

He says to this effect, government has procured the equipment worth more than K400 million for the service to construct durable and reliable feeder roads, bridges and crossing points throughout the country.

Mr Lungu notes that ZNS will not only be a cost-effective entity for government, but will also help the nation achieve this goal in record time.

He has since urged the ZNS Commandant and his officers to take care of the equipment and ensure that it benefits the Zambian people.

And President Lungu says his decision to place the Rural Roads Unit under ZNS is with a view to further strengthen and enhance capacity of the service to timely deliver road infrastructure to the people of Zambia.

The President during the same occasion also commissioned the first-ever state of the art Zambia National Service Banquet Hall located in Chamba Valley.
