Green Party promises massive mining sector reforms

Green Party President Peter Sinkamba says his party plans to undertake massive reforms in the mining sector to address environmental, socio-security, and governance issues.

Mr. Sinkamba says the objective is to maximize inter-generational benefit-sharing; ensure job and social security for the miners; as well as reduce poverty in mining communities.

He adds that his party plans to create the Mineral Revenue Accounting Department in the Ministry of Mines to implement the Minerals Accounting System.

He also states that the Green party in government will abolish the dual-fixed mineral royalty tax system and introduce a uniform Variable Mineral Royalty Tax System with 3% pegged as lowest limit and 6% as apex.

Mr. Sinkamba furthers states that the Green party will also abolish the Corporate Tax System and in its place introduce a 40% Site-Specific Windfall Tax System triggered when the price of copper is twice the production cost
