Republican President Edgar Lungu has been called upon to make monumental pronouncements on governance and economic issues affecting the nation when he opens Parliament on September 18, 2015.

And the Head of State has been asked to consider removing the Road Development Agency (RDA) from State House and ensure that the agency’s operating budget is drastically reduced.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) says it is unacceptable for a country like Zambia to have RDA clerks drawing excessive amounts of fuel using Tom Cards and driving big cars even when they can do without such.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says RDA is spending colossal amounts on paying for medical insurance and fuels when the amounts they pay in medical insurance can go a long way to improve operations at UTH where all government workers can go to.

And Mr. Mwanza says his organization Mr. Mwanza has asked President Lungu to also focus on making key pronouncements such as measures to reduce excessive government expenditure.

He has also asked the Head of State to ask Parliament to repeal the Presidential Emoluments Act and other laws that impose the unnecessary burden on government to provide housing for the former Presidents, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chief Justice.

Mr. Mwanza adds that improving the provision of the healthcare must be top of the agenda of what the President must address in the house.

He states that it is unacceptable that UTH is reduced to a hospital for the poor while Government pays medical insurance to enable its employees to go to private clinics.
