National Empowerment Forum (NEF) Executive Director Edgar Siakachoma has dismissed assertions that local contractors fail to perform to satisfaction.
Mr. Siakachoma says the poor performance by local contractors is mainly due to inadequate skills, capacity, finance and lack of machinery for them to carry out their works satisfactorily.
He notes that most local contractors are unable to buy construction equipment due to lack of financing or sustainable financing methods thereby hindering the growth of the sector.
Mr. Siakachoma says it is unfair to label all local contractors as non performers based on a few selfish ones.
He states that the problem of shoddy works by local contractors is mainly as a result of lack of machinery.
Mr. Siakachoma says small and medium local contractors should be given chance in order to create a vibrant and sustainable Zambian construction industry.
