Action Aid Zambia has called on the Zambian government to hasten the process of enhancing knowledge around mining production in order to address the current gaps in taxation in the mining sector.

Speaking in a telephone interview with Q FM News, Action Aid Country Director Pamela Chisanga says there is need to capacitate institutions as the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) with necessary expertise in the mining sector to be able to provide expert analysis and guidance on the mining sector as it relates to taxation.

Ms Chisanga says such experts would be able to provide thorough analysis on the kinds of minerals being mined by the companies and the costs of production among others.

She notes that minerals are a wasting resource and government will do well to put these measures in place as soon as possible especially with the outset of new mines that will also be mining among other minerals Gold, a mineral with higher value.

The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has scheduled a public hearing on 18th September, on Sinozoncha Resources Investment Company Limited’s plans to undertake large scale mining of Copper, Gold, Iron, Lead, Manganese, Silver and Tin in Petauke in the Eastern province.
