ZRA destroys K146m worth cigarettes at Chirundu

46 cartons of cigarettes worth K 146 Million have this morning been destroyed by Zambia Revenue Authority at Chirundu One Stop Border Post after they were seized in February this year.

ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Mumbuna Kufekisa says the cigarettes which did not bear the prerequisite stamps, the truck and trailer were seized on 26th February, 2015 after intelligence information from members of the public.

Mr Kufekisa says there has been no submission either from the driver or transporter on the said seizures.

He adds that the truck and trailer would be released upon payment of 300% of the duty or upon payment of the 30% of the value of the subject truck and trailer, whichever is greater.

Mr Kufekisa has since warned taxpayers not to break the law by attempting to avoid payment of due taxes.
