ZAMRA to initiate self medicines health shops

The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has disclosed that it is in the process of coming up with the idea of self medicines health shops in far flung areas of the country.

ZAMRA Public Relations Officer Ludovic Mwape says though the idea of the self medicines health shops has not yet reached the level of approval, a prescribed list of medicines will be given to certain individuals for sell in their communities.

Mr. Mwape says this is one way of avoiding the mushrooming of illegal drug stores and pharmacies, but ensure that those selling medicines even in rural areas are registered with the authority.

He says once approved by the ministries of health and justice, the authority will be calling on people to apply for self medicines.

And Mr. Mwape says the authority will not relent in ensuring that it cleans up not only Lusaka but the country as whole of illegal drug stores.

Mr. Mwape has since implored illegal drug store operators to comply with the law by legalizing their operations.
