Ngwale criticizes BoZ over new banknotes

Disability HIV/AIDS Human Rights Programme Director Elijah Ngwale has criticized Bank of Zambia’s decision to issue new notes with special tactile features to carter for the visually impaired.

Mr. Ngwale says it is an insult to the blind persons because this will not add value in terms of development.

He says instead of wasting money in this manner, the Bank of Zambia, the central but should instead expose the blind persons to Information Technology and Communication system.

He has since advised the Bank of Zambia to embark on Information Technology and Communication projects for the blind, saying this will add value to the blind especially that Zambia is becoming computer oriented.

Mr. Ngwale adds that the Bank of Zambia should have first consulted the blind before announcing its decision to issue new notes with a tactile feature to cater for the visually impaired.
