ECZ prepares to hold 2016 polls alongside constitutional referendum

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has started preparations to hold the 2016 General Election alongside the constitutional referendum.

And the commission says preparations for the voter registration exercise have reached an advanced staged.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Chris Akufuna has explained to QFM News in an interview that the commission has to prepare accordingly for the holding of the general election alongside the referendum to adopt part of the final draft constitution.

Mr. Akufuna says this follows the passage of the law for the Commission to conduct the elections alongside the referendum.

And Mr Akufuna has disclosed that the Commission is hoping that by mid-year next year, the voter register should have been verified in readiness for the polls.

He says the commission will start the voter registration at Civic Centers in September till March next year, while mobile voter registration will only go up to November.
