Increase in floor price for maize welcomed in Chiengi

Sub-Chief Natende of Chiengi District Luapula Province, Katele Kalumba says people of his area are happy with the increase in the floor price for maize from the earlier announced K70 to K75 per 50kg bag.

Su-Chief Natende says this is despite that floor price having not put into consideration the performance of the Kwacha and inflation.

He has told Qfm News by telephone that to this effect people in the area have been taking maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) for sale.

Sub-Chief Natende however notes that the only concern is the limit that the FRA has given in which to buy maize from each of the District of the Province.

He says question that therefore arises is who will buy the rest of the farmers’ harvest when the FRA meets its target in the Province.
