CSPR weighs in on revised National Youth Policy

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) in Eastern Province says its analysis of the national action plan for youth empowerment and employment and national youth policy recently launched shows that government thoroughly evaluated the past performance of the 2006 National Youth Policy.

CSPR Eastern Province Coordinator Maxson Nkhoma says they have discovered that in the recently launched youth action plan, deliberate measures have been put in place to address social economic trends which have negatively affected the young people.

Mr. Nkhoma says if what has been outlined in the action plan will be implemented as it is, a number of young people are likely to be empowered which may help in reducing the high levels of poverty in the country.

He adds government should continuously assess its progress in implementing the measures outlined in the policy so that the policy does not only remain on paper but comes to fruition, stating that this will instill confidence in the people of Zambia.

Mr. Nkhoma has since encouraged young people to take time to go through the policy and understand it so that if what is contained in it is not implemented, they can demand for what has been outlined in the policy to be implemented so that they can benefit and in turn contribute to the development of the nation.
