Harrington writes to Wina over Rodger Chongwe Inquiry report

Barotse National Freedom Alliance Trustee William Harrington has written to Vice President Inonge Wina seeking to know when the Dr Rodger Chongwe Commission of Inquiry report on the Mongu riots of January 2010 relating to the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 will be made public.

Mr Harrington who is also former Tourism Minister in the Fredrick Chiluba MMD administration says while it is commendable that the Vice President made an assurance during the last sitting of Parliament that the report together with two other commission reports will be made public, no timeframe was given within which the reports will be made public.

Mr Harrington reminds the Vice President that her assurance on the matter is both in public and national interest.

He says the people of Barotseland in particular have for a long time been anxiously awaiting the publication of the Mongu riots report and recommendations contained therein.

Mr Harrington states that the assurance therefore to make the reports public is welcome in the interest of transparency and accountability.
