Katuta chiefdom needs hospital, govt alerted

The Zambia Council For Social Development (ZCSD) has noted the need for government to construct a referral hospital in chief Katuta‘s chiefdom of Luwingu district in northern province.

The ZCSD is concerned about the time and distance it takes for a patient in a critical condition to be transported from the rural health center in Katuta area to a referral hospital in Luwingu Township.

Executive director Lewis Mwape has disclosed to Qfm news by telephone that during a recent visit his organization made to the area, it was discovered that it actually takes eight hours to travel by road from Katuta area to the nearest referral hospital in Luwingu Township.

Mr. Mwape has wondered how a patient in a critical condition can survive before being attended to at the referral hospital.

He says government should in this case consider bringing such health services being offered at the only referral hospital closer to the people by ensuring that a hospital is constructed in the chiefdom.
