Ng’oma analyses motive behind Lungu’s 2016 candidature

Political Analyst Alex Ng’oma has observed that the ruling Patriotic Front may be trying to avoid the succession wrangles that almost split the party following the death of President Michael Sata by endorsing and adopting President Edgar Lungu as its presidential candidate for the 2016 general election.

Dr Ng’oma notes that the move is aimed at uniting the party around the candidature of President Lungu.

Dr. Ng’oma notes that it is never too early or too late for any party to adopt its presidential candidate, but that it simply depends on what a party wants to do.

He says bearing in mind the commotion and confusion that rocked the ruling party prior to the 20th January presidential election; it could be that the PF does not want to experience a similar situation and is planning early so that when time comes; it does not look disorganized but united.

Dr. Ng’oma says this may in a way help the party when 2016 comes as they will not have to start looking for a presidential candidate when it is too late but will begin campaigning on time unlike the situation was in the last election.
