Police nab teacher in Mbala for swindling job seekers

Police in Mbala have arrested a 41 year old teacher of Chila Primary School for swindling 96 unsuspecting job seekers of K87,000.

Police have since charged the suspected with obtaining money by false pretence.

Police sources told ZANIS in Mbala that the named school teacher was nabbed on Saturday night at a Guest house with a list of names of job seekers to be purportedly recruited into the Police Service, Immigration and Zambia Air Force (ZAF).

It is alleged that the suspect swindled unsuspecting youths by charging them between K2, 500 and K3, 800 each person on the pretext that he will find them jobs in the Police Service, Immigration and ZAF.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect was working under instructions from some senior government officials in Lusaka to recruit youths for employment from within and outside Mbala.

Meanwhile, 11 affected young people, 2 from the Copperbelt and 9 from Lusaka who travelled to Mbala on Saturday in view of being taken to Lusaka are now stranded after police thwarted the scam.

By press time the suspect was still in police custody while the 11 victims are being kept at the police station because they have no transport money to get back home.
