Lungu urges women access to financial services

Republican President Edgar Lungu says there is need to help women have access to financial services.

President Lungu says government will always support creative ideas aimed at supporting the growth of the country’s economy.

He says there is also need to ensure that women who he says are marginalized are helped achieve their goals by involving them in the economic agenda.

Speaking when a delegation from Atlas Mara the founders of Banc ABC paid a courtesy on him at State House this afternoon, President Lungu says government is ready to work investors such as Atlas Mara.

Atlas Mara Founder Bob Diamond says they will continue to invest in Zambia’s economy in order to create more jobs as well as help grow the country’s economic.

Mr Diamond says Banc ABC is ready to lend to consumers in order to help them grow so that they can as well contribute to the growth of the economy.

He says the Bank is set to invest about US$65 million to help young entrepreneurs and the youth in Zambia especially those in the agriculture sector.

Mr. Diamond, who is also Atlas Mara Director says the bank is closely working with farmers and that the bank is keen to help farmers grow so that they can contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.

And speaking at the same meeting, Atlas Mara Chairman Ashish Thakkar says the company is working in seven different countries in Africa including Zambia with about 459 branches on the continent.

Mr. Thakkar, who is also a Founder of Bank ABC, says the bank is always ready to give back to the people they are working with so that they too can contribute meaningfully to the growth of the economy.

He adds that the bank is passionate about helping young entrepreneurs in Zambia more especially those with interest to develop the agriculture sector.
