About 600 people in Kitwe join UPND

UPND KitweAbout 600 people from Kitwe have joined the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND).

The defections included members of the ruling Patriotic Front, opposition Forum for Democracy and Development and Kitwe Noah Buses and Tax Drivers Association.

The defectors made their decisions to join the UPND when opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema, his Vice Geoffrey Mwamba and former Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) National Secretary Ambassador Major Richard Kachingwe toured various parts of the Copperbelt town.

Mr. Hichilema and his entourage had interactions with members of the public at Changamali Grounds and Chimwemwe after attending a Church Service on Saturday at Kwacha Seventh Day Adventist.

Titus Mwamba representing Kitwe Noah Buses and Tax Drivers Association says he and his team have decided to resign from the ruling PF to join the UPND because the PF has failed to govern the country.

He says promises such as ‘more money in people’s pockets’ and job creation and many others have not been implemented.

Mr. Mwamba says he is confident that the UPND is forming government in the next 2016 elections.

And Lewis Chaiwa Information and Publicity Secretary says he has defected to join the UPND from the PF because of the recent crossover of Geoffrey Mwamba popularly known as GBM who was so influential in the PF.

He says it is unfair that the PF has chucked out Mr. Mwamba and many other well-meaning party members after the death of Michael Sata for purposes of enriching themselves.

And UPND President Hakainde Hichilema says it is unrealistic that Republic President Edgar Lungu is busy flying from country to country on tax payers’ money when people in the country are suffering.

Meanwhile, Geoffrey Mwamba has promised that when his party comes into power, a Ministry will be created for Taxi Drivers, marketers and others where they will be getting loans for business improvement.

He has lamented that what is happening today is worrying as all small business owners are not able to meet their daily needs.
