ECZ wins kudos

The Zambia Electoral Alliance (ZEA) has praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for galvanizing stakeholders in the Electoral Process to share the ECZ’s position on the commencement of the Voter Registration Exercise slated for 14th September, 2015.

ZEA Spokesperson Guess Nyirenda in a statement says the action by the ECZ brought stakeholders to speed with regards the Voter Registration Exercise and the related programmes and activities.ECZ LOGO 1

Mr Nyirenda says the consultation also brought to the fore the many concerns that stakeholders including Civil Society and members of ZEA in particular have had.

He states that Zambia Electoral Alliance is particularly delighted at the guidance by the ECZ Chairperson that the Commission would consider the concerns that stakeholders had raised on the extension of the Voter Registration Exercise in the three (3) provinces namely: Copperbelt, Luapula and North Western and the resolution that the Commission would get back to the stakeholders and the citizens after thorough consideration of the matter.

Mr Nyirenda says ZEA welcomes the fact that the ECZ seems to be determined to ensure that things are done correctly and transparently in all activities surrounding voter registration and all matters that pertain to the 2016 tripartite elections and the consultations with different stakeholders on 12th August, 2015 are a testimony.

He says ZEA would like to not only urge the ECZ to continue with this policy of consultations with stakeholders as this will enhance the people’s confidence in the Commission and the Electoral Process, but also urge the ECZ to be prompt on the feedback they promise the citizens, in this case the consideration of their concerns on the extension in only the three (3) provinces of the Voter Registration Exercise.

Mr Nyirenda says ZEA would like to put it on record that the Alliance will not hesitate to support any progressive ideas and undertakings in the Electoral Process, but at the same time on behalf of citizens fight any maneuvers that may be seemingly detrimental to the growth of Zambia’s democratic dispensation.
