The Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) has projected a slight increase in the price of mealie meal in the country despite government maintaining the maize floor price for the Food Reserve Agency at K70 per 50kg bag.
MAZ president Allan Sakala says this is because the subsidized price government announced in March this year of K65.00 per 50KG bag of maize has had an impact in cushioning the mealie meal price.
Mr. Sakala tells Qfm News in a telephone interview that with the K70.00 floor price announced by the Food Reserve Agency, it is therefore expected that there will be a slight increase in the price of mealie meal.
He says this is coupled by the recent increase in the fuel pump price and load shedding.
Mr. Sakala however, says his association on the other hand welcomes the announced K70.00 floor price for maize for this year’s crop marketing season.
He says this is because it is within digestible levels of the Millers’ operations and therefore they have no problems with the floor price.
