CUTS seeks scientific way of adjusting bus fares

The Consumer Unity Trust Society (CUTS) says it is in the process of piloting a scientific methodology of price adjustment in the transport sector.

Cuts Executive Director Simon Ng’ona says his organisation working with the ministry of transport and the Road Transport and Safety AgeSimon CUTSncy will come up with a scientific model as a way of moving forward so that bus operators do not take advantage of any increase in the fuel price to increasing bus fares.

Mr Ng’ona explains that what is happening now where operators chose to increase the fares whenever it suits them, but do not reciprocal efforts when there is a reduction in fuel pump prices is not fair to the commuters.

He says the scientific methodology once in place will help in bringing order amongst the operators as they will not increase bus fares at will.

Mr. Ngon’ga further states that commuters’ representation in the new model will be as effective, noting that in the past, commuters have not been fairly represented.
