LCC counters accusations of failing Millennium Challenge Account

The Lusaka City Council has dismissed reports in some sections of the media suggesting that it has failed to provide the Millennium Challenge Account Zambia with information for the layout of the city’s overflow regarding the multimillion dollar drainages project in Lusaka.

Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Brenda Katongola in a statement says the Council had provided Millennium Challenge Account Zambia with information they requested for in correspondence dated April 30th,2015.

Ms.Katongola states that the Council through its Engineering Services and the Public Health Departments had given MCAZ a comprehensive report on the Urban Development Plan that the Council in Collaboration with Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) had drawn out.

She says the two institutions have since held a series of meetings on the Urban Development Plan for Lusaka.

Ms Katongola says the two institutions share a common strategy and vision on setting out a plan for future drainage investments in Zambia, where the tributary drainages will pour their water into the main drainage which is the Bombay Drain.

Ms. Katongola adds that the Council had also presented its annual allocation and expenditure report on drainage maintenance to MCAZ which will be done in conjunction with the Ministry of Local Government and Housing for a proposed three years from 2013.

She states that the local authority is committed to having a proper drainage system for the city in the shortest possible time and is cooperating well with funders of the project, the Millennium Challenge Account Zambia (MCAZ).
