Aeras a nonprofit, GLOBAL biotech organisation developing new tuberculosis (TB) vaccines for the world says there is urgent need to find new TB vaccines.
Speaking during a media training in Lusaka today, Aeras Director of public affairs for Africa Sibusiso Hlatjwako says the current interventions are not likely to eliminate TB or achieve the set targets by the World Health Organization as regards to TB.
Mr. Hlatjwako says there is need to come up with more innovative interventions if the post 2015 goals have to be achieved, adding that coming up with a TB vaccine is one such intervention.
He adds that an effective vaccine will help save lives, increase productivity, reduce the cost burden to the house system and will reduce the cycle of transmission.
Mr. Hlatjwako further states that there is also need for sensitization on TB which may result in investments in the fight against TB.
