Ndola DC saddened, Zambezi Portland has laid off workers

Ndola District Commissioner Rebby Chanda is saddened with the move taken by Zambezi Portland cement to lay off 47 workers.

Mr. Chanda says the firing of workers is a setback to employment creation.

Mr. Chanda however, says government will seek dialogue with management and negotiate on the best way forward.

He is hopeful that management will understand the concerns of the workers and rescind its decision.

He says there should be another way of dealing with what has led to the decision to layoff the workers.

Mr. Chanda says the laying off of workers is not the way to go if management is facing any challenges.

He has further urged the workers to remain calm as government engages management at the cement company.
