Kabwe farmer gets 8yrs for trafficking in cannabis

A 53-year-old man in Kabwe has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for trafficking in cannabis.

Robert Chilufya, 53, a Peasant farmer of Chilufya village in Luano District was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission in Central Province for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 683.3kg.

He has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment with hard labour by the Principal Resident Magistrate John Mbuzi in the Kabwe Subordinate court after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Chilufya was apprehended on 6th August, 2015 in the remote part of Luano Valley.

He has been known for supplying drugs in the area and has been on the DEC watch-list for over six months.

Meanwhile, the Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested a 28-year-old man of Matero Township for trafficking in Heroin.

Moses Nguni, 28, of Shadreck Area in Matero Township has been arrested for trafficking in 14 sachets of heroin and 37.3g of loose cannabis.

The suspect was apprehended near his home in Matero Township and will appear in court soon.
