JCTR doubtful Zambia can reap more from mines

The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection (JCTR) is doubtful that Zambia can come up with any further measures that will enable the collection of more revenue from the Mines.

Executive Director Leonard Chiti says given the current mining tax regime his organization thinks that it will be very difficult for the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) to come with measures that will enable it collect taxes that the country should be getting from the mines.

Father Chiti says the current mining tax regime does not give much room to make such maneuvers.

He says the JCTR is therefore interested to see how the ZRA’ Mineral Value Chain Monitoring Project (MVCMP) which is in the second stage of implementation, will overcome this challenge.
