Teaching profession is key for realizing Zambia’s literacy goal – Tembo

University of Zambia (UNZA) acting vice chancellor Enala Tembo says the teaching profession is key in the realization of government’s goal of turning Zambia into a highly literate nation by 2030.

Speaking when she graced the 4th graduation of 500 secondary school teachers at Paglory College of Education in Kabwe today, Professor Tembo says it is the responsibility of the University of Zambia’s school of education and the nation as a whole to ensure that quality training is provided to upcoming teachers in the country.

Professor Tembo says the University of Zambia has committed itself to providing quality assurance to its affiliate institution such as Paglory College of Education through regular monitoring of training programmes.

She says so far, the moderation exercise for Paglory College of Education has been successfully carried out.

Professor Tembo has however, urged the college management and staff not be complacent but work harder to make more improvements in the administration of the courses being offered by the college.

And speaking earlier, College Principal Trasizio Banda says since inception, the college has expanded to an extent that its student population has greatly grown and the staff establishment both academic and non academic have substantially increased.

Mr. Banda further states that the college is also making changes to its training programme so as to conform to the new education curriculum.
