CBU to reopen August 17

Kaingu 1The Copperbelt University which was closed indefinitely on July 8 as a result of a strike by Lecturers will reopen on 17th August, 2015.

Education Minister Michael Kaingu told a media briefing in Kitwe today that students are expected to be at the campus by 16th August.

Mr Kaingu however, said Vice Chancellor Naison Ngoma will continue being on leave.

The reopening of the Copperbelt University follows the decision by striking CBU lecturers to end their two months boycott.

They were demanding the removal of CBU vice-chancellor Naison Ngoma.

The decision by the lecturers to end their boycott is a culmination of a two-day meeting with the Minister of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education Michael Kaingu and his Labour and Social Security counterpart, Fackson Shamenda.
