TIZ worries over climate change funds

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) says there is need to put stringent measures in place to ensure the funding the country is receiving for climate change programs is used for the intended purpose.

Speaking at an awareness raising workshop for journalists on reporting REDD+ integrity issues using investGoodwell-Lungu-TIZigative journalism as an anti corruption tool this morning, TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu notes that there is a lot of funding from cooperating partners to mitigate climate change challenges.

Mr. Lungu says if not careful, people may not use the funds for the intended purpose thus the need to monitor the effective use of these funds as failure to do so will result in failure for the country.

He states that so far, a number of complaints on the utilization of the funds have already been received and that TIZ is studying the complaints.

Mr. Lungu says the target of TIZ is to ensure that the funds are tracked and action is taken in case of misuse of the funds.

He states that if effectively utilized, climate mitigation funds will help the country address climate change challenges.
