Government has observed that the impact of load shedding on the recently projected end year GDP will be minimal.

The Ministry of Finance is basing this on measures being put in place to increase production in various sectors of the economy owing to the current power deficit in the country.

Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba has disclosed to Qfm News that government has had discussions with various sector players on the need to ensure the power deficit does not impact negatively on production.

Mr. Yamba says this is besides new power generation stations coming on board to cushion the power deficit.

He cited Maamba Coal Power Station where electricity production of 300 megawatts is expected to commence by the end of this year and the 120 megawatts Itezhi-Tezhi Hydro Power Project as the new power generation coming on board.

Mr. Yamba states that this is why government considers the current power deficit in the country as a short term setback that may have only a minimal impact on economic growth.
