UNZALARU cautions govt over intention to dismiss CBU Lecturers

CBU LogoThe University of Zambia Lecturers’ and Researchers’ Union (UNZALARU) has cautioned that intentions government to dismiss lecturers at the Copperbelt University if they do not return to work will be too ghastly to contemplate.

UNZALARU General Secretary Jason Mwanza in a statement says relevant institutions of government should engage in sincere and meaningful dialogue with the Academics Union at CBU to abate the continued impasse.

Mr Mwanza says threats by Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili’s alleged incitement of union members to rise against their duly elected union leaders is interference and an affront to trade unionism at CBU, nationally and internationally.

Mr Mwanza states that it is ironic that the Information Minister has usurped the powers of the Ministers of Education and Labour who were competently appointed by President Edgar Lungu to superintend over matters of Education and Labour respectively.

He says such threats and actions must be condemned in the strongest terms.

Mr Mwanza adds that the Minister of Labour has the necessary competence to handle these matters.
