Bill to abolish casualization to be tabled in next session of Parley

Labour and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda says a Bill to abolish casualisation will be tabled in the next session of Parliament.

Mr. Shamenda has told QFM News in an interview that he could not present a bill abolishing casualisation during the current sitting of Parliament which adjourns this Friday because his ministry was still consulting relevant stakeholders over the same matter.

He is however hopeful that when Parliament resumes its sitting in the next session, the bill will be presented to abolish casualisation.

Mr Shamenda explains that he will present a bill to Parliament for the partial amendment of the Employment Act to address casualization and unreasonable termination of contracts.

He says a lot of work has been done towards ending casualisation of labour in the country, adding that this will ensure that Zambians are subjected to decent work.

The Labour Minister says it is regrettable that most companies have been hiring workers on short term contracts saying government will soon abolish such kind of contracts.
