The Commonwealth Parliamentary Assembly (CPA) Zambia branch says young people should be empowered in order for them to be active participants in the development agenda of the country.

Speaking during the CPA Zambia branch local seminar at parliament buildings this   morning, CPA President and Speaker of National Assembly Dr. Patrick Matibini stresses that education is the best empowerment that can be given to young people, especially that they are the future of any country.

Dr Matibini says it is therefore, only prudent that if any country were to boast of sustainable development, the young people should be at the centre stage of such development.

He noted that that the focus of the seminar is important in the development of education in Zambia, adding that the role of parliamentarians in addressing the decline in the quality of education is especially important because education is crucial in national development.

Dr Matibini states that this is because once citizens are educated; they will be in a position to make informed decisions.

He further noted that the seminar accords parliamentarians being representatives of the people an opportunity to discuss challenges and solutions to the provision of quality education to all citizens.
