Government has noted the need to revisit Section 56 of the Prisons Act that provides for imprisoned mothers to go in with their babies.

Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila says it is for this reason that government is consulting widely with stakeholders so that the plight of these circumstantial children is addressed.

Mr. Mwila says all relevant stakeholders should come on board and work with government in revising this piece of legislation.

He says children cannot suffer for the wrongs of their mothers, the reason why stakeholders must submit their proposals on how best the law can be revisited.

Latest statistics show that Zambia has a total of 65 circumstantial children in prisons across the country.
